    Duilio De Gennaro

Duilio De Gennaro was born in Italy in 1969. He graduated from Licenciado en Bellas Artes Università La Sapienza, Rome followed Master’s from Máster de Arte Moderno, Universidad U.C.L.A. Los Angeles. His works have been timely influenced by Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon and Amadeo Modigliani. Gennaro has participated in multiple group shows in Rome, Madrid, Florida and Sao Paulo. Also, he had solo exhibitions in Cuba, Spain, Italy and the USA.
Gennaro’s works are figurative and painted in oil, frequently paying homage to old masters’ creations. His paintings are a stylized medley of uplifting visual narratives and poetry in visual form. The vibrant symbolic paintings evoke feelings of sensuality, love, unity, hope, fertility and eternity. Characterized by surreal manipulation of human anatomy, he uses colours as an expressive element and relies on drawing to create form and space. He portrays the contemporary mix of European and American art-forms. His paintings bring out the atmosphere of all the regions he has travelled, highlighting their colour and culture. Through his practice, he delves into human debate of beauty, desires and loneliness.
Set amidst brooding light in active poses and unusual costumes or clothing, they suggest stories without giving the game away, leaving their meaning up to personal interpretation. His paintings are two-dimensional independent of line, shape, color, light and dark, mass, volume, texture, and perspective, creating a powerful yet poignant aesthetic within every piece. To a certain extent Gennaro subverts real forms into crude, jagged shapes in electric colours, rendering his sitters almost unrecognisable. The subjects are periodically distorted  into objects or animal-like forms that conjure up different psychological states of mind.
Gennaro’s works are in private collections in Argentina, Cuba, Brazil, USA, Portugal, Italy, Belarú, India, Switzerland, France and México.
