    Pascale Taurua

Pascale Taurua through her unique portrayal of the world of fashion brings a fresh perspective to contemporary art. A former Miss France, Taurua has something of an insider’s perspective when it comes to the world of beauty and fashion. She brings these viewpoints in paintings that are erotic, and sensuous portraits of women, depicted in glamorous grace and style. Rooted in a feminist ethos, as it’s not just about clothes and external appearance, the paintings make a strong statement about women’s bodies, their desires, sense of self-expression, articulation, independence, vulnerability, and fragility.

Born 1961 in New Caledonia, which is a picturesque French island territory, Taurua graduated from the Conservatoire of Art, Papeete Tahiti. Popularly, she is known as the ‘Golden Eye Artist from Paris’. A tale of unique grit and determination, she had a serious car accident around the age of 28, which made her lose sight in one eye. This didn’t deter the courageous artist who was crowned Miss France at the age of 18, pursuing a career in modelling since then.

As an interesting and offbeat method of representation, she collects pictures, makes drawings and develops a collage of a particular creative idea of work. At the same time, once in a while, she hires a model to pose, too. She would further chisel the idea through her imagination and produce works that are her unique interpretation of the world of fashion, beauty, and femininity. It’s mostly the male artists doing it and then the woman becomes an object of the gaze. Taurua flips that convention by handing women the reins of self-expression.

Taurua’s calls herself a contemporary artist who amalgamates aspects of realism, figurative art and fine art. Her works have been exhibited widely in France, Dubai, India, and the U.K.
