    Rekha Rodwittiya

Rekha Rodwittiya is a contemporary Indian artist renowned for her feminist paintings, representing the relentless and ever-so-powerful female figures. Born 1958 in Bangalore, Karnataka, Rekha finished her undergraduate degree from the MS University, Vadodara, India, followed by masters from the Royal College of Art, London as an awarded courtesy of the Inlaks Scholarship. She got her first working opportunity at a private studio run by the famous and veteran artist, Jyoti Bhatt.

Having the female figure as the central theme for most of her work, Rekha has developed a style of displaying calm and chaos in her practice. Being an extension of her conscience, Rekha communicates empowered emotions, underpinning feminism,  through diverse motifs she employs. They discharge an essence of experiential phenomena.

Rekha's work is a discrete observation of life, depicting the complexity of human nature with juxtapositions of feeling rejected or accepted, and of the socio-political issues that surround her life. Her work reflects on how she reacts to these issues, usually sensitive in nature, and draws inspiration from them to depict these scenarios of her past experiences perfectly. She believes her work is an expression of herself and especially of the places in her mind that she fears to visit but steps into those "unknowns" to find a rightful existence.

Rekha Rodwittiya is an international artist with her work represented in group exhibitions in India as well as abroad. Her works have made their way into various private and public collections including those in India, the U.K., U.S.A., Brazil, Italy, West Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands.
